  1. Nice set of upgrades. I just got this bike and it needs a different gear ratio pretty badly. I am always in 1st gear. The Vuelta crank looks like a nice upgrade. I will have to do that. I am going to see if I can get a Sunrace MFM300 which goes from the 28t first gear up to a 34t. The chain doesn't look long enough, but I have to see.

  2. Freehub uses cassette, I think you mean it is using a freewheel which is the screw on cheap system most lower end bikes have, cassettes slide onto free hubs, freehubs are the premium option, I just upgraded my XC27 to a freehub and 7 speed cassette, it's way better especially if you find your self riding in the rain, one rain storm destroys a freewheel by washing out the lubricant where as freehubs are sealed.

  3. Shimano has a 34 tooth megaRange cassette that really makes a difference on my malus and there's a electric bike company ( luna cycles on YouTube) that makes a 200$ air shock that rides well though not a bluto

  4. Looks like this model just got released at Costco USA. I purchased last years model a year ago and have been really happy with it especially given the price. It's my first FT bike (actually my first bike in a long time) and use it mostly for trail ridding near where I live. The small crank and crank arms I think are it's weakest point and have checked out the modifications you made. Has anyone has success in replacing the crank as well as adding additional gearing so it can handle more inclines? I'm a newbie but would like to try and do this work myself and would appreciate any recommendation / advice (guy at the local bike shop said it would cost $300+ which is more than the bike cost). Seems like this would be a good bike to learn on in terms DIY mods. Thanks!!

  5. Don't really like the orange, but it's night and day difference in weight compared to the similarly priced mongoose fat bikes.

I was pretty shocked when I lifted one up in the store last week.
